The 2026 Self-Defense Combatives Seminar will cover the following:

Stress Inoculation Tests

Get ready for our Stress Inoculation Tests (SITs) with actors and props to help simulate stressful, real-world self-defense scenarios.

Team-Based Activities

Throughout the weekend, expect a variety of team-based activities designed to pit team versus team either directly or indirectly. The team with the most points by the end of the weekend receives a trophy.

Unarmed & Weapons Training

From Japanese Jūjutsu to Shinobi no Jutsu and modern combatives, to Sword and Wooden Staff training, you can expect a variety of incredible training combining both modern and traditional methods of combat.

Indoor & Outdoor Training

Half the seminar will be taught indoors while the other half will be strictly outdoors.

This seminar is a rain-or-shine event.

Real self-defense doesn’t change because of the weather.

Martial Arts Seminar Instructors

Omar Gilani Sensei: Founder and Head Instructor

Omar Gilani Sensei, founder of Shadow Combatives, brings over 20 years of martial arts training experience to this seminar. Omar Sensei’s background spans multiple disciplines, including Japanese Jūjutsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Ninjutsu, Taekwondo, Boxing, Kenjutsu, Bojutsu, Yarijutsu, and additional traditional weapons systems, with a focus on practical, real-world self-defense.

In addition to his technical training, Omar Sensei researches martial arts history and has traveled internationally for training, including Japan, Ireland, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States. Attendees of this seminar will benefit from his depth of experience across both modern and traditional martial arts systems.

Rocky Melton Sensei: Assistant Instructor

Rocky Melton Sensei is a law enforcement officer with many years of experience across a wide range of martial arts, including Ninpo, Jūjutsu, Wado-Ryū, Taekwondo, Judo, Kyudo, Greco-Roman wrestling, Capoeira, Wushu, Kenjutsu, and Bojutsu. Rocky Sensei also has a long history of tournament championships.

Most notably, Rocky Sensei has been inducted into the martial arts hall of fame twice. At Shadow Combatives, he currently holds the rank of Nidan (2nd Degree).
